The Story of Prims & Pretties

One day I was working on a project & talking about picking up a job when my son blurts out of nowhere with "you can sell your stuff mum" followed quickly with approval by the husband unit. My daughter mentioned Ebay which I heard of in passing but was not truly aware of its reach or scope. So, I listened to them chatter on for a few & continued with my project to its completion.
Later that night as the day came to quiet, I jumped on the computer and started to do some research. I Looked up local offices for permits & tax information as well as fee structures for ebay as well as listing formats & what best suited my small aspirations. I dove deeply into product & material pricing on a larger scale as well as shipping supplies & such. Once I put it all together on paper, I then researched other sellers to see how & for what prices they would list their product. I felt pretty confident I had done my research. The next day, I had morning coffee, kids got off to school, husband off to work and I got busy sewing, took pictures & listed my first pillow.
On January 16th, 2003, I sold my first handcrafted pillow to a client in California & I've never looked back. I've met people from all over the world who all have varied taste which keeps my business fun & exciting on the daily. Everything from Cottage to Gothic, Twilight to Star Wars & Roses to Skull & crossbones. It's fluid & fun at the same time. I can honestly say the only time I've not enjoyed my job is when I had to make a NY Yankees rag quilt. You see, I am a die-hard Red Sox fan & I really had to make peace with that decision. However, I swallowed my pride, practiced 'fanmanship' & made a friend & a long time client in the process.

I've made numerous items over the years, but my favorites are when a grandmother contacts me to create a quilt for their "not yet born" grand baby. Even better, when the same grandmother contacts me years later for a bigger quilt because said grandchild has now moved into a twin bed or a high schooler is going off to college & they want to send them off with "a little something special".

I started out with rag pillows & quilts. I then started making curtains & aprons. I moved on to closed seams traditional quilts, pillows, totes, tree skirts and so it goes. I've added knit & crochet items to my repertoire as well.

I'm about to come up on my 22th year of offering my home goods to the public. Aside from all the wonderful feedback I've received over the years, the best thing about this business is, has been and always will be, return clients & the friendships built along the way.

Thank you for your loyalty & patronage over the years & I look forward to creating for you for years to come.
